Throughout 1966 and 1967 King increasingly turned the focus of his activism to the redistribution of the nation's economic wealth to overcome entrenched black poverty. In the spring of 1968 he went to Memphis, Tennessee, to support striking black garbage workers. King was assassinated in Memphis on April 4, 1968.

Martin Luther King Jr. made the United States a better place by being the leader of the bus boy cott for a year that was for segregation on buses. He did this so the African Americans could sit in the front of the bus. Martin Luther King Jr. also helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This was an organization of black churches and ministers that aimed to challenge racial segregation. King was the leader of non violent marches and boycots to stop discrimination. Martin Luther King Jr. is famous for his I have a dream speech. He also helped the nation with money to help poor black people. He won the nobel peace prize in 1964.

One day, my friends and I decided to take a trip to a dangerous island called Dinoland! When we got there, we were shocked at what we saw...
We saw a huge dinosaur right away! It had big spikes on its back. We realized that there was a lot more then just one. We counted 8 spikey dinosaurs! These dinosaurs did not seem mean but we were scared because we they were so big. I took a lot of pictures of the dinosaurs. Me and my friends decided to follow the spikey dinosaurs into the forest.
When we got far into the forest we heard loud booms. The ground was shaking. All of a sudden a huge t rex came out of the trees and tried to eat the spikey dinosaurs. Then the t rex saw me and my friends and started chasing us. We ran as fast as we could and hid under a tree that had fallen down. We stayed still because a t rex can not see you if you don’t move. The t rex went away after hours and we used our cell phones to call our parents for help. Our parents got the army to come get us off Dinoland! The army came and we got home safe and told all of our friends about our adventure.

Martin Luther King Jr. goes down in history as one of the principal leader of the civil rights movement in the United States and a prominent advocate of nonviolent protest. King's challenges to segregation and racial discrimination helped convince many white Americans to support the cause of civil rights in the United States.
King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and was ordained as a Baptist minister at age 18. He graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 and from Crozer Theological Seminary in 1951. In 1955 he earned a doctoral degree in systematic theology from Boston University. While in Boston, King met Coretta Scott, whom he married in 1953.

King and other black leaders organized the 1963 March on Washington, a massive protest in Washington, D.C., for jobs and civil rights. King delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech to an audience of more than 200,000 civil rights supporters. The speech and the march created the political momentum that resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibited segregation in public accommodations and discrimination in education and employment. As a result of King's effective leadership, he was awarded the 1964 Nobel Prize for peace.
